- Personal AchievementsThe 3x3x3 Cube Overview
The 3x3 cube is the famous puzzle, the Rubik's cube. Some of the world's top solvers include Feliks Zemdegs, Patrick Ponce, Leo Borromeo, Seung Hyuk Nahm, and Jayden McNeil. The current world record single is held by Yusheng Du with a time of 3.475 seconds. This is the only official sub-4 solve ever! The world record average is held by Felik's Zemdegs with a time of 5.69 seconds. There are 6 faces on a 3x3 cube, 9 stickers per face, and including orientation, the cube has a whopping 2,125,922,464,947,725,402,112,000 possible positions!
Solution I learned how to solve the 3x3 cube from the Cubicle.com's tutorial on how to solve it. It is very helpful and walks you through step by step, slower than a lot of other tutorials. It doesn't solve the cube very quickly, but it gets it done. If that doesn't help, Youtube has a LOT of tutorials, and I am sure that you can find something there.Advanced
There are several really fast methods for solving the 3x3, and among the main ones are CFOP, Petrus, Roux, and ZZ. The most popular method is CFOP, AKA The Fridrich Method. It is also the most similar to the beginners tutorial above. I personally use CFOP, and I learned using ParadoxCubing's tutorials in this playlist. Many people can solve the cube in under 10 seconds with each of those methods, though, so I would recommend trying out other methods and seeing which one works best for you.
HardwareThere are a lot of cubing brands and products, but here are some that I would recommend:
Yuxin Little Magic - Your basic puzzle that can get you good times if you average more than 25 seconds.
Mofang Jiaoshi Meilong - A very fast cube for cubers who want speed over control.
Yuxin Kylin V2 M - A cheap magnetic cube that is controllable and has a great feel.
YJ MGC - A nice magnetic cube that is considered a very high quality cube.
The Valk 3 - This cube is another fast one, but a bit higher quality than the Meilong.
Dayan Tengyun M - This is a unique cube worth giving a try, it is very high quality.
MoYu WeiLong GTS2 M - A mix of speed and controllability, but has a pleasant feel and smooth turning.
The Valk 3 Power M - The ultimate Valk cube, Very controllable, a little slower, but great corner cutting.
GAN 356 X - One of the latest GAN cubes allows you to adjust the magents and nuts, and is probably the smoothest cube here, turning is very fluid.
Yuxin Huanglong M - Another very controllable cube, with some of the fluidity found in the GAN.
Personal AchievementsI can solve a 3x3 cube in about 20 seconds on average. My PB single and ao5 are 12 and 18 respectively. My main cubes are the Cubicle Little Magic M and the GAN 356 X. I have done about 8000 solves on ZYX timer on 3x3 in total.
